Atrium refurbishment
KingsGate Peterborough
We are so excited for the opportunity and provision to refurbish our KingsGate Peterborough atrium from Monday 6 July to autumn 2026, creating more space for our growing church family!
Take a look at the video and FAQs below for key information about how Sunday services will operate:
Our weekly Sunday in-person services will continue throughout the works but, starting on Sunday 12 July, our 11am service is moving to 11:15am, just for the refurbishment period. This will allow more time for us to get off and on site between our morning services (please note: there are no changes to our 9am service time).
KingsGate Kids and Youth provision will continue too, but there are also changes to KingsGate Kids check-in and collection, how we’ll all enter and exit the building will look different, and for this season we’ll be unable to serve drinks or remain on-site after services.
Take a look at our FAQs below to find out more.
FAQ
Please note, this page will continue to be updated over the coming weeks with more detailed information.
What’s the timeline for the refurbishment?
- Up to and including Sunday 28 June: The Atrium will remain open and operating as normal.
- Sunday 5 July: The Atrium will be available ONLY for entry and exit, and KingsGate Kids check-in as normal. Seating will not be available in the Atrium, the Welcome Lounge and Info Points will move, and hot drinks will not be served after services. This is because, from 29 June, some of the Atrium’s key fixtures and fittings will be removed ready for the works to begin.
- Monday 6 July onwards: NO access to or through the Atrium for the duration of the works.
- From Sunday 12 July: Service times move to 9am and 11:15am (not 11am).
- Autumn 2026: Estimated completion – we are unable to provide an exact date at this time, but the aim is for works to be finished during October. Please pray that no delays will be encountered and for the refurbishment to run smoothly!
How will we enter and exit the KingsGate Peterborough building while the Atrium is inaccessible?
From Sunday 12 July we will enter and exit the building via the side doors, coming into the Auditorium via corridors, either on the ground floor or first floor. If you need to cross from one side of the building to another, this can be done either via the Auditorium or the upstairs corridors. These routes are fully accessible and our amazing volunteers will be around each Sunday to help direct you to where you need to go. The key thing for all of us is to follow their guidance to help avoid bottlenecks, and to maintain safety as we move around.
How will the flow of people coming out of the building be managed?
To help everyone leave the building and the site safely after services, we will introduce a staggered exit from the Auditorium at the end of each service. Parents and carers collecting children from KingsGate Kids’ groups will be released first, enabling time to collect from multiple groups before others leave the Auditorium, to avoid needing to move against the flow of traffic at any point. How well this works will be reviewed on a week-by-week basis when the works have begun, and we will learn and implement any necessary changes.
We will also create walkways in the car park which we’ll all need to stick to, to ensure everyone’s safety. Signage and teams will be around to help direct you to where you need to go.
Will there be a Welcome Lounge or Info Point?
One of our priorities will always be to ensure every guest continues to receive a warm welcome, and that there’s always someone to talk to if you ever have any questions on a Sunday, so we will be maximising the space available to us in McPherson and Murray to ensure a Welcome Lounge and Info Point are always provided.
Will there be any refreshments available between services?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to provide drinks after services while the works are ongoing, but we are so grateful that some of our Hospitality Team will continue serving in other ways during this season until we can resume offering refreshments again. Water refill points will be available around the building, so we encourage you to bring a reuseable bottle.
But will we still be able to congregate somewhere?
While the works are taking place, there won’t be adequate space for people to safely congregate on the KingsGate site (neither in or around the building, or in the car park before or after services). Through this period, we’d encourage you to make plans to connect, continue conversations, and enjoy community off-site after services instead.
Where will I register my kids on arrival?
All KingsGate Kids rooms will operate as normal throughout the works. Up to and including Sunday 5 July you will continue to register your children in the Atrium. From Sunday 12 July, Kids check-in will move to Seymour – the large room on the front left-hand side of the building as you look at it from the car park.
So, from Sunday 12 July, parents and carers of all children ages 12 months–School Year 6 will need to enter the building through Seymour’s external door. Look out for signage, and our teams will be around to help direct you to where you need to go. As always, having your QR code ready to scan as you approach Seymour will speed up the check-in process.
Will KingsGate Youth run as normal?
Yes, KingsGate Youth will continue to run as normal during Sunday services, other than a few dates during the summer due to Limitless Festival (we will always announce during the Sunday service whether Youth groups are running that day). Young people will be released from their groups when the service ends, so parents/carers can arrange to meet them in an agreed place. Further information will be shared by the Youth Team in due course, including info relating to mid-week Youth activity, so please do keep an eye out for that and/or contact the team if you have specific questions at this stage.
I serve on a team. Will there be lots of change for us on a Sunday morning?
We know that some ministries and teams will be more affected than others throughout this season. Details will be communicated to each team directly prior to the works beginning, so please do keep an eye out for that and/or contact your team leader if you have specific questions about your serving role.
What about when I visit the building for something during the week?
Our Main Reception is relocating to the stairwell on the right-hand side of the building, nearest to the Blue Badge car park. If you have specific questions about if or how the activity you attend mid-week will be affected by the refurbishment, please get in touch with your usual point of contact.
What will the new Atrium look like?
We can’t wait for the big reveal later this year! In the meantime, you can see an artists’ impression showing roughly what the space will look like when the works are complete here.
I have another question, how can I get in touch?
