Community Action - Making a Difference

WHAT we've achieved together

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

  • Mags
  • This is Mags! Mags has volunteered with Community Action for over 23 years and in that time has served CareZone, Foodbank and Food Pantry. She can also be found on Fridays in the Community Café at Kingsgate

Mags’s lived experience makes her kind, compassionate and understanding. She is great with people and knows exactly how to make them feel loved, safe and included

Mags said she volunteers with us because she loves people serving and helping them. She says she is called to help those less fortunate than she is and it makes her happy and satisfied!

We love you so much Mags! Thank you for everything!

STRONGER TOGETHER

We love partnering with local business to ensure our clients have what they need. We have some great local companies who have done brilliant things to help support our work.

Last month staff from BURMOR CONSTRUCTION ran the Cambridge half marathon as a team and raised £4000 towards Care Zone GOODNIGHT SLEEPTIGHT beds project. This means 40 people will now have a bed!

Virgin Media regularly support Food Pantry and in May made the first of 2 lots of £600 donations of food from our shopping lists.

We are so blessed to have these connections.

MY STORY...

  • Hannah
  • Hi, my name is Hannah and I’m a member of KingsGate Food Pantry.

Without the Food Pantry, I don’t know where I would be today. It has helped me not only financially, but also with my mental health. Knowing that I have access to a caring and supportive place during difficult times has taken away so much stress and worry. I have never felt judged — only supported — and that has helped me feel less alone during some very challenging periods in my life.

I started coming to the Pantry two years ago, it has been a real lifeline. I have made so many friends there! The kindness and understanding shown by everyone at the Pantry is amazing, reminding me that there is hope and that people care - this has had a hugely positive impact on my life.

This improvement has also led me to start volunteering there, which has given me a sense of purpose, helped build my confidence, and allowed me to support others who may be going through similar struggles. It has become more than just a Food Pantry to me — it is a community where people genuinely help and support one another.

we need...

More than 1 million children in the UK do not have their own bed according to Barnados research in 2023.

Care Zone has pledged to increase our provision of beds to make sure everyone in need will get a bed.

To do this we need to raise a total of £80,000 to buy 800 beds at £100 each and are appealing to local businesses, schools, community groups , individuals and families to join us.

We are calling this project GOODNIGHT SLEEPTIGHT- a bed for everyone.

what we've been up to

We had a fun day at the Peterborough Celebrates Festival again this year!

Foodbank, Care Zone and Food Pantry went along to chat to the people of Peterborough about our projects…and play games on our stand!

It was lovely to talk to people about what we do, and especially to share information about our GOODNIGHT SLEEPTIGHT project.

The kids showed how good they were at getting ‘Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed’, while our team chatted to the adults about the plight of some families in Peterborough who don’t have beds to sleep on.

We can help make a difference by providing these much needed beds!
