Jesus the Glorious Son of Man

‘The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.’ Revelation 1:14-16 (ESV)

Reflection

Pause and ponder on this beautiful vision that John saw of Jesus – overwhelming, radiant, and utterly holy:

• His white hair points to the ‘Ancient of Days’, sharing the Father’s wisdom and eternal nature (see Daniel 7:9).
• His eyes like fire penetrate every mask, purify every heart, and burn away every lie (see Hebrews 4:13).
• His feet of burnished bronze signify strength, stability, and purity; He is unmovable and righteous. His voice, like rushing waters, is irresistible, powerful, and awe-inspiring (see Ezekiel 43:2). Every other voice is drowned out by His authority.
• The seven stars in His right hand show His sovereignty over the churches and their leaders (see John 10:28).
  The double-edged sword from His mouth is His Word, living, active, able to judge and to heal (see Hebrews 4:12; Isaiah 11:4).
• His face shining like the sun (see Matthew 17:2; John 8:12), is the light that dispels all darkness and confusion.

This vision is designed to humble us, silence fear, and ignite worship. The Jesus who stooped to wash feet is the same Jesus who reigns in glory. He is both approachable and awe-inspiring. Let your heart be reoriented. A low view of Jesus leads to fear, anxiety, and defeat. A true vision of His glory leads to courage, boldness, and surrender. Worship is the only fitting response. Spend time today simply praising Jesus for His awesome majesty.
