DAY 3
Pray for a great Encounter
‘Their King will pass through before them, the Lord at their head.’
(Micah 2:13)
Reflection
This beautiful verse from Micah 2, promises divine leadership, depicting God as the Great Liberator, who goes ahead to break through the barriers of captivity and sin, leading His people to victory. This messianic prophecy reveals God as the Shepherd-King, who clears the path for people to experience freedom and protection in their lives. Everything in this vision centres on God. Yes, there is an ingathering. Yes, there is a breakthrough. But it all flows from the presence and leadership of the King. Breakthrough is not ultimately the result of strategy, effort or intensity but out of an intimate encounter with the Lord Himself.
Let’s celebrate that we now have permanent access to a holy God, ‘By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.’ (Hebrews 10:20 NLT)
Jesus paid the ultimate price with His life, to break the hold of invisible powers and principalities that lead to spiritual darkness and death. It’s wonderful to know that we can approach God knowing that we are fully accepted by Him, ‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’ (Hebrews 4:16)
Because we have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, we can now enjoy a deep sense of joy and freedom in this life, having been reconciled with our heavenly Father, ultimately leading to eternal life.
We can now experience a beautiful, relational intimacy with God, calling Him ‘Abba’ – the same name that Jesus used, expressing His deep, familial connection. What an honour that we, too, have that same privilege, ‘See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!’ (1 John 3:1)
This brings us back full circle to the scripture from Micah: ‘I will surely gather all of you… the place will throng with people. The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the Lord at their head.’ (Micah 2:12–13)
Our vision, Think Bigger and Beyond, will only be sustained by an ongoing encounter with King Jesus, which will renew and empower us, for all that He has called us to.
In the same way that the Lord has lavished His love on us, let our hearts be full of love for those who don’t yet know the mercy and grace of God. Let’s pray for all the people in our spheres of influence, and call out for their salvation. Let’s pull down the strongholds in their lives, and believe that there will be an incredible ingathering of people, and that God’s church will throng with people, encountering His wonderful presence, His lavish love, and His saving power.
Quotable Quote
“The most holy and necessary practice in our spiritual life is the presence of God. That means finding constant pleasure in His divine company, speaking humbly and lovingly with him in all seasons, at every moment, without limiting the conversation in any way.”
– Brother Lawrence (17th century Friar and author)

Prayer points
- Surrender your life afresh to God. Bring before Him your hopes and dreams, your fears and worries, your desires and expectations – choose to fully trust Him.
- Pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, for wisdom and revelation to know the deep and abiding love that God the Father has for you. Ask the Lord to search your heart, to test your thoughts and to lead you in His everlasting ways.
- Ask for restoration to areas of your life where you feel a bit ‘battered and bruised’ and in need of God’s supernatural touch. Bring areas of weariness or disappointment to the Lord for healing.
- Pray that everything you do would flow from intimacy and not effort. Pray for a fresh discerning of God’s voice, as you read His Word and spend time in worship.
- Pray, that you would encounter God in a powerful way as you read the Bible; that the words on the page would be illuminated and you would understand them with fresh insight and revelation.
Pray for alpha
There are Alpha courses running in all of our campuses, including in four Peterborough schools.
- Pray for guests to experience the presence and peace of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Pray for the leaders and helpers; that they would be filled with faith and expectancy that the Holy Spirit is going to use them in powerful ways as they sensitively host their groups.
