Children’s Worker (Early Years)
Role description:
Be the point of contact within KingsGate Kids Team for families with children who have additional needs. Meet with families to understand specific needs of the children. Ensure that Sunday teams are aware of children with additional needs and have the information regarding how to support them. Keep children’s coordinators updated on status of additional needs with regular meetings.
Specific tasks:
- Keep records of all the Additional Needs children within KingsGate Kids.
- Ensure records are kept up to date and review deadlines are met.
- Communicate with parents with children who have additional needs our policies and practices.
- Set up All About Me meetings with the KS and EY leads.
- Introduce creative ideas to help all children to access KingsGate Kids at their level.
- Communicate with Sunday teams regarding children in their care.
- Meet regularly with line manager to update on progress of AN support.
- Ensure equipment and resources are kept in good working order and up to date.

- Ability to provide a KingsGate pastoral reference.

- Regular attendance at a LifeGroup
Key skills, attributes and/or experience
Essential:
- Passionate about provision for children with additional needs
- Some understanding of varying needs of children
- Sympathetic and caring in communications with families
- Good organisational skills
- Effective communicator both verbally and written.
- Able to raise up volunteers
- Able to work within the boundaries of confidentiality where appropriate
Desirable:
- Experience of working within an additional needs environment.
Support and personal development
- Training related to your responsibilities as a volunteer.
- A named person who will supervise your volunteering and with whom you can discuss your work.
- Regular one-to-one meetings with your supervisor.
- A review of your volunteering role after three months.
- Access to any relevant staff training and leadership development resources if appropriate.
- Access to technical equipment and IT systems, if needed for the role, including any training required
- Reimbursement of your travel expenses. If claiming petrol, this will be paid at the prevailing mileage rate.
- Full involvement in the life of the staff team, eg, Summer BBQ and Christmas meal.
Time commitment
- 4 hours a week
- In the office and sometimes on a Sunday
- Attend a monthly update/review meeting with supervisor.
