Bring the Presence back!
Thankfully, David quickly learned his lesson. Unlike those before him who had left the ark for 20 years, David waited for only three months. He was a man after God’s own heart, who had a passion for the presence of God. He was provoked by the example of Obed-Edom, so he humbled himself and went to bring the ark back to Jerusalem.
And it was told King David, ‘The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.’ So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David, with rejoicing.
– 2 Samuel 6:12
David had learned his lesson and instead of carrying the ark on a new cart as before, he obeyed the instructions of the Lord, and ensured that this time …the Levites carried the ark of God with poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the Lord.
– 1 Chronicles 15:15
The wonder of the new covenant is that now, all of us, as believers, are called to be Levites and priests, carrying the presence of God wherever we go!

- So, what can we learn from this? First, that if we’ve lost the presence of God in any way, we have to do what it takes to welcome Him back. Take some time now to earnestly ask the Lord for a return or increase of His manifest presence in your life. Read and pray through Psalm 63, which begins with these words: You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you in a dry and parched land, where there is no water.
- Secondly, pray, with expectancy, as someone who is a carrier of the presence of God, that today you will see an overflow into the lives of those around you – expect opportunities to BLESS people and to witness to them about Jesus!
